First floating student housing Urban Rigger – has just been completed and is in Copenhagen as a showcase
First floating student Urban Rigger
Floating student housing Urban Rigger can accommodate 12 students. It is a low maintenance student housing unit to be deployed at lakes, rivers or harbours close to educational facilities. Many Urban Riggers can be connected to each other and towards a quayside without need for additional floating infrastructure, and is thus a very efficient design.
The Urban Rigger concept is created and owned by Urban Rigger ApS Copenhagen. The Urban Rigger design is made by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels.
The prototype Urban Rigger vessel was built in Poland by a network of Polish contractors, with House on Water Ltd providing Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering and Structural Design.
The vessel consist of a 100 years lifetime concrete hull with a 60 years lifetime superstructure made of refurbished shipping containers on top.
The vessel will be moored by a fixed steel mooring system, and connected to services for Power, Fresh water, sewage water and communications.
The energy system boast a 24 panel PV system which drives all electricity consumption during normal days. Shore power is added when driving the low consumption heating system.
The heating system is a seawater energy reuse heat pump system for under floor heating.
